Call recording & transcription

Every call you make or receive through Asan is automatically recorded. Recordings are transcribed by Whisper AI and used by Cori for coaching scores, lead scoring, and next-step suggestions.

How recording works

Call recording is enabled by default on every Asan account — there is nothing to set up. Here is how the process works:

  1. Call starts. As soon as the call connects, Twilio begins recording both sides of the conversation.
  2. Call ends. Twilio processes the recording (this typically takes 10–15 seconds for short calls).
  3. Asan downloads the file. The recording is downloaded from Twilio and stored securely on Asan's servers.
  4. Transcription & analysis. The audio is sent to Whisper AI for transcription, and Cori analyzes the transcript for coaching insights.
Both inbound and outbound calls are recorded automatically. This includes calls made from the power dialer, manual dialer, and incoming calls to your Asan numbers.

Transcription

Asan uses OpenAI Whisper to convert every call recording into a text transcript. Transcripts are generated automatically and typically appear within a minute of the call ending.

Speak clearly and use a headset to get the most accurate transcriptions. Background noise can reduce accuracy.

Where to find recordings

Recordings are accessible from several places in Asan:

Are all calls recorded automatically?+
Yes. Every inbound and outbound call through Asan is recorded by default. There is no setting to toggle — recording is always on to ensure Cori can provide coaching and lead scoring.
How long are recordings stored?+
Recordings are stored indefinitely on your Asan account. There is no automatic expiration or deletion. You can download them at any time.
Can I download a recording?+
Yes. Open any call detail view and click the Download button next to the recording player. The file is saved as a standard audio format you can play in any media player.
Does transcription work for non-English calls?+
Whisper supports many languages and will transcribe non-English audio. However, accuracy is highest for English. For other languages, transcription quality depends on audio clarity and the specific language.
Can I disable recording for specific calls?+
Recording is currently always on for all calls. If you have compliance requirements that prevent recording certain calls, contact support to discuss options.
