Call recording & transcription
Every call you make or receive through Asan is automatically recorded. Recordings are transcribed by Whisper AI and used by Cori for coaching scores, lead scoring, and next-step suggestions.
How recording works
Call recording is enabled by default on every Asan account — there is nothing to set up. Here is how the process works:
- Call starts. As soon as the call connects, Twilio begins recording both sides of the conversation.
- Call ends. Twilio processes the recording (this typically takes 10–15 seconds for short calls).
- Asan downloads the file. The recording is downloaded from Twilio and stored securely on Asan's servers.
- Transcription & analysis. The audio is sent to Whisper AI for transcription, and Cori analyzes the transcript for coaching insights.
Transcription
Asan uses OpenAI Whisper to convert every call recording into a text transcript. Transcripts are generated automatically and typically appear within a minute of the call ending.
- Transcripts are available on the call detail view and on the lead's detail page under the Calls tab.
- Cori uses transcripts to generate coaching scores, identify buying signals, and suggest next steps.
- Accuracy is high for English conversations and handles most accents well.
- Speaker labels distinguish between you and the lead in the transcript.
Where to find recordings
Recordings are accessible from several places in Asan:
| Location | How to access |
|---|---|
| Call Logs page | Navigate to Call Logs in the sidebar. Every call is listed with a play button, duration, and date. |
| Lead detail → Calls tab | Open any lead and switch to the Calls tab to see all calls with that specific lead. |
| Individual call detail | Click any call row to open the full detail view with recording player, transcript, and coaching analysis. |
The recording player supports the following controls:
- Play / Pause — start and stop playback
- Scrub — click anywhere on the progress bar to jump to a specific point
- Speed — adjust playback speed (0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, 2x) for faster review
- Download — save the recording as an audio file to your computer
Coaching from transcripts
Cori reads every transcript and generates actionable coaching insights. For each call, you get:
- Coaching score (1–10) — an overall rating of how the call went based on tone, objection handling, and outcome.
- What went well — specific moments Cori identified as strong (e.g., effective rapport building, clear value proposition).
- Areas to improve — constructive feedback on missed opportunities or weak spots.
- Buying signals — phrases or cues from the lead that indicate interest or intent.
- Suggested next steps — follow-up actions Cori recommends based on the conversation.

Tips
- Use the speed control to review long recordings faster — 1.5x is a good balance between speed and comprehension.
- Download recordings when you need to share a call with a colleague or manager who does not have Asan access.
- Read transcripts instead of re-listening when you just need to recall a specific detail from a call.
- If a recording shows 0:00 duration, refresh the page — Twilio may still be processing it.
- Coaching scores improve over time as you apply Cori's feedback consistently.
